A quick poster I put together for Perth’s Oz Big Band. Like my Rhythm Spectacular poster I based it on the design of vintage tour posters. This style of poster, typical for the 1940s and 1950s, were designed for touring artists and had a blank space at the top for the local promoters to overprint their own local show details and dates. Consequently the use of type and the layout of this top part was usually more amateurish and I’ve tried to reflect that in this design.
The client asked for a design that would reflect the retro 1940s image the band were going for. The green used here and the overall shape used is a reference to the shape and colour of the band’s music stands.
